Little Blue Bird Turns One

This little cutie has actually won a photo contest! :) Her parents sent in a picture from this Halloween Photo Shoot, and she placed in the top ten I believe. She is such a sweetie, and was such a trooper for this shoot. She missed her usual morning nap, which moms all over the world can understand what that will do to a kid. :) And we still got some adorable pictures of her.

My sister in law and I swap taking each other's family pictures. And I have to say, I think I get the better end of the deal! I just really love these! I did her family here at the beach, but man it was sooooo windy and COLD. I love beach photographs, but you really run the risk with tricky weather over there.

Anyway, we had a great time doing these, and Ashleigh was amazing! She had the kiddo's laughing, and the pictures make me smile every time I see them. I will treasure these forever!

I have always felt strongly about my clients OWNING their images. Perhaps that is because it is how I feel. When I have my photograph taken, I want to own them. I want to put them on Facebook, share them with family and friends, put them on my blog, print canvases, make christmas cards, and baby announcements. I want to OWN them, forever. You should own them too, and you will if you choose to work with me. Simple as that.

You may purchase as many or as few as your budget allows.
About a week after your session, I will send you an online viewing gallery where you can view your photos.

Select the ones you would like to purchase.
After I receive your payment, you will receive a disc/USB with the purchased images for you to keep forever and always. :)

My last family of 2011!

I feel so blessed to know so many great families. This family we've known since we moved out here 6 years ago. Their daughter has baby-sat my kids, and the boys are so good to my little boys. In fact....this is my family in about 10 years! Girl, boy, boy! If my kiddos turn out like these kiddo's I"ll be one lucky mama.

One of my favorite things about this photo shoot was their dog Kali. She is an old, sweet, mama, and has had some surgeries as of lately, and they wanted her in some of their pictures. Having had a childhood dog, I was more than happy to! I know there are photographers out there that just do pet photography--so it was kind of fun to do my first. It was much like photographing a toddler. :) You have to be fast, and talk in a really high voice. lol

Done for 2011!

Halloween Friends

I'd like to think that there are benefits to being my friend. lol Well, at least when your kid is friends with my kid...there are benefits. :) And its even better when it goes both ways. This morning I got to hang out with with my friends and Will's friends. He started to get a little bugged when he wasn't in any of the pictures but, we did his photos last week. Time flies so fast, these babies won't be babies for much longer.

These two Angry Birds were such troopers--they had just come from an immunization visit, and a surprise flu shot.

Halloween Photo Shoot

I wanted to try a new location in Simi for pictures, so I took my kiddos out in their costumes for a fun photo shoot. My son, was quite in character--a very serious Thor. My daughter has been obsessed with dragons for the past 2-3 years, so she was thrilled to find a dragon costume again this year. My baby loves Buzz lightyear, so I actually bought him Pajamas from the disney store. They are made much better, and he can where them again and again after Halloween. That is thrifty Liz for ya! :)

There's Nothing like your First Baby

There is nothing like your first baby. You have no idea what you're in for. Everything is so exciting, precious, stressful, and wonderful. These guys took me back eight years when we had our first little girl. This little lady is a doll, and mom and dad are pretty great too. :)

This little guy has grown up so much. He is going to be GOOD at sports when he grows up. No fear--his dad has had him up on the wake board with him already. He is such a little ninja! He was running and summer-salting all over the place--serious skills!

The Whittier Roses

Living in Southern California you can't help but want a family photo on the beach. And I have to say...it is tricky business getting a good photo over there. The weather is very unpredictable. These little guys were such troopers. It was sooooo cold and windy! But they were determined, to get a good photo for their mama, and did such a good job. I did some headshots for mama here. Such a beautiful family, so glad they're close by.

Baby Bollard

This little cutie patootie arrived a bit early! You saw her mama's maternity photo session here. When I photograph newborns, I like them 2 weeks and under. They are super sleepy and easy to shape and pose. Well miss Madeline did not want to go to sleep at all! And when she did "sleep" she still had her eyes cracked open just a bit. Come to find out...thats how she sleeps! You'll have to ask her mama about that! :) But she is absolutely adorable--heaven sent.

I think these next few photos are my favorite. They are so much more emotional. They show a relationship. A young mother and her baby. Mom will always look back at these and think, oh my goodness, her head fit into my hands. And baby girl will look back on these pictures and think....wow my mom is so pretty and young! :)

Grown Up Kids

I can honestly say I love the stage of life that I am in right now. My children are small, sweet and innocent. They love slurpees, swimming, cartoons, easter egg hunts, when dad comes home and being tucked in at night. Everyday, I try to appreciate these simple sweet daily dealings with them. Because one day.......I know they are going to turn into this. :)

Beautiful grown up children. These are some of my favorite girls, and they are grown up! Headed off to college! Serious life decisions coming their way. What a joy it has been for me to know this sweet family--love ya Waxmans!

I've lived in California for almost six years. Time is flying by! Every now and then in our ward, someone from my home state of Utah moves out here, and I love it!!! There is just something about someone who knows the same places you know, same schools, culture, ect....you feel an instant connection with them. Enter Heidi here. She moved in a few years back and we've been good friends since then. She is hilarious, and always so fun to be around. She is expecting her third baby. You met her gorgeous little red head here. There is another little girl in that belly, and we're all anxiously awaiting to meet her and have a look at her hair color!

I've known Matthew for the last 5 years. I think my favorite thing about him is how nice he is to my little five year old Sean. There is not a Sunday that goes by that if their paths cross, Matthew doesn't say hi to him, and give him a fist bump! Sean loves it--and has grown to look up to these super cool boys in our ward.

Matthew is beyond smart and talented, and it was so fun to take his pictures. He's one of those boys that you just know is going to do well in life.

His mom who is one of my most favorite, funny friends I've had came along with us. It was a blast!

Mother's Day

Here are the three reasons I'm a mother. I was going to write a "mushy" post about the joys of being a mother...but as I'm typing this...child #2 and I are having a disagreement, and he is mad at me. :) Being a mom is hard. Physically, and emotionally, ....but in the eternal picture of things, it is the most important thing I can do in this life. I have to remind myself of that often. Many times I feel like I want to be pursuing other interests of mine...dance, piano, photography, teaching....but at the end of the day, I know that the few short years I have with them while they are this little is priceless. I will have many, many years to myself where I can pursue other interests. But for now, I'm enjoying every second with them. Even when we're "arguing".
Happy Mother's Day to all my amazing mom friends. Especially to my mom, and mom-in-law, I'm a lucky girl.

Old Friends

Old friends, make the best friends. From 2003-2005 we lived in Boston. My husband was going to school back there. The move was kind of intimidating, but we were excited for this new adventure together. Our one and only baby was Sarah, and she was about 6 months old. We go to church the first Sunday there and sit in the back row. We were greeted by a very bubbly and friendly Primary President, (shout out to Lisa P.) and others soon followed. However, this day will always be memorable because of Ammon. He walks in introduces himself to us, then goes up to the stand and plays prelude music on the piano. After that he goes on to conduct the meeting..he is a 23 year old member of the Bishopric! After sacrament meeting we're sitting in Sunday school, and he comes in and teaches the class. Amazing. After the class we went and talked to him again, met his sweet wife Kara, and they invited us over to dinner that day!!! Needless to say, we were impressed with these guys from day one!
We love our Boston days. We will always look back on that time so fondly. We loved the people we met there--most of us were students, or just starting out in the work force, and very far away from our families.
Kara's parents live close to where we are now, so every couple of years or so when they come home to visit, they are sweet enough to make time for us. I love being around old friends....they make me feel younger. :)

snow, Snow, SNOW!

Its been a couple of years since I've been home to Utah in the Winter. I've missed the snow....a little bit. :) It is really fun to see my kids experience it.
While we were there I snapped a few of this cutie guy and his parents. He was such a trooper outside. He even face planted once off the sled into the snow, but after a little love from his mama, carried on just fine. :)

The past month I have been busy with lots of families. It has been a fun challenge. It has made me practice some head swapping techniques. :)
Here are some of my favorites. A big thanks to my mom who was here for a week--she watched my kiddos for me so I could do the sessions.
And a big thank you to these families! They were all great--and I know how hard and stressful it can be to get everyone together, dressed and in a good mood for pictures.

Beautiful Baby Girl

This little beauty is the daughter of a friend of mine from my kids school. She has tons of dark hair--which is really fun, because her siblings are blondies. She was so good for the photo shoot. She was actually in a deep sleep when I started working with her, but as mom and I got yackin' away....she started to wake up more. Lesson learned....talk soft. :)
Oh I love newborns!! They are so tiny and precious--I'd take a newborn anyday!

My third and final triplet! Niki was so fun--just like the other two! It is really fun to do "big kids" that look at the camera and like having their picture taken! lol
I think I have found one of my favorite locations thus far in Simi. We went to this beautiful orchard of walnut trees during the "golden light". I think they are my favorite pictures of hers. Thanks for a great night Niki!

This sweet girl is part of my favorite triplets. :) Actually they are the only triplets that I know. You met her sister last week, and her other sister is on the books for next week. I had such a great time with Brenna--she was not a bit shy with the camera, and whipped out some great poses on her own! :)

The Final C. Baby

You met this little guy's mama a few months ago. He arrived safe and sound and even a tad bit early! And he is adorable--I hate to admit it, but I did get a little bit of the "newborn-itch" holding this little guy.

I like this first shot--because they are tiny for such a short amount of time. His head fits in her hands--tiny.

I like to put babies on blankets with "stories". Maybe it came from a grandma, a friend---someday the blanket will be gone, but the picture will remain.

This one just makes me smile....its almost like he needs one of those wrestling masks that his brothers have. It looks like he's flexing his little muscles in triumph! That....or he's pooping. :)

Blue Steel!

I will admit, in the past I tend to "boost" the eye color in some of my close up portraits. It kind makes the eyes pop, and makes them stand out a bit. I DID NOT edit this little boys eyes at all!! What you see is the real thing!!! Isn't he just the most handsome little guy! :) He was a champ for this photo shoot--we did it up at our local mall where there is a fantastic Koi pond. His parents had told him, "if you smile and say cheese for Liz we'll go see the fishies"--and he was soooo good!!

K and I were talking that family pictures NEED to be a yearly tradition. Children change so quickly, and when they're gone you'll want every picture of their youth you can lay your hands on. (Not too mention, we're not getting any younger either!)
With that being said, let me admit, that in 12 years of marriage, I have not had a family picture taken. It all changes this year!

Meet Baby Z!!

I think Baby Z was one of the most anticipated baby's! We were all watching her mama as the weeks ticked by, and hoped she arrived here safe and sound. And wow, was she worth the wait! Check out the hair on this beauty!!! She was awake the whole time during the photo shoot, and just good as gold.

Big Sister was such a good hostess--she showed me her room, her new potty watch, we chatted princesses and she gave me a cute new nickname of "Lizard". :)

I may be a little biased....but he is one cutie baby! This is my nephew who was almost born on my birthday! His mama was in labor all day long, and just missed it by a half an hour! He is their first baby, and they will be headed to London for the next year. Mom, Dad and M are down visiting, and we headed out for a photo shoot. :) Enjoy his adorableness. :)

A Simi Valley Legend

She is famous. People know her as the mom of five boys, and she is having her sixth and final baby.....a boy! Which makes her even more legendary!! Six pregnancies means she has been pregnant 4 and a half years. :)
Here is her proof to remember that her body was able to produce six great, healthy boys! And here is to hoping that she gets the best daughter in-laws anyone could have!

This beautiful couple is expecting their little girl in the next month. They were so fun to photograph! I can't believe how tiny her belly is for being so far along. I was enormous at 34 weeks! :) But....I (and Wendy's) probably contributed to that problem.

"She Left Proof"

After my kiddos are in bed, I spend my few precious quiet hours reading blogs and websites on photography, crafts, and food.
I came across a blog where I was so touched by this post.....

"I came across a Blog Post on Under the Sycamore and haven't been able to stop thinking about it. Here's the quote from the She Left Proof project:"

"Many scrapbookers knew Aleida Franklin. She was a wonderful wife and mother and a brilliant artist. I didn’t know Aleida personally, but she taught me something I will never forget.

She emailed me last year to tell me she loved my blog and to ask if I liked my short hair-cut. This lead to a series of emails which eventually led me to remark that I really loved how often she posted pictures of herself with her children on her blog. And she replied to me, “Have you ever seen a photograph of your own mother and thought to yourself how fat she looked? Or how she wasn’t wearing make-up? Or wasn’t dressed in a glamorous outfit?” Of course my answer was no.
She then responded with saying that she made it a goal to take a picture of herself with her children at least once every month. And that to use excuses about how we look, as women, is ridiculous, since our children will never care what we looked like, but only that we had physical evidence of the bond between mother and child.

Aleida tragically and unexpectedly passed away in an auto accident in September of 2008, leaving 2 small children and a grieving husband. After she passed I thought of how those children must feel to have those precious photographs. I have made it my personal goal to follow her wise suggestion and I try to take photos of myself with my children….double chins, make-up free, bed-head and all.

I invite Mothers everywhere to take Aleida’s Challenge. To photograph yourself with your children each and every month.

So what do you think??? Mothers need to get in the picture! Such a simple thing to do, that will mean so much to your children. :) I REALLY need to do this--She goes on to give some suggestions--always have your camera handy--ask your husband to take the picture. Don't let the moment pass when you're cuddled up with your kids.

Another beautiful belly!! I tried a couple of new locations and loved the results! Rose is due in a couple of months, and we all can't wait to meet baby Zoey. :) If she is anything like her mama and big sister, she will be absolutely beautiful!

I love Shandie and Bryan! You already got a glimpse of Dylan at 6 months--he is now turning one, and I got to take his pictures. :)
Dylan was sooooo good for the shoot. But why would I expect anything less from this little guy! He is the sweetest, most laid back baby I've met in a long time! He probably gets that from his parents. They are so great--so fun and easy to be around. Thanks Reeves, I had a great time!!

We've known Robert and Carly for as long as we've lived here. There are both just a few months older than Sarah and Sean. If fact we have a "save the date" photo for Carly and Sean. :) We'll have to see what happens in the next 20 years.
